Belle Isle Aquarium, 3 Inselruhe Ave, Detroit, Michigan 48207, Detroit, MI 48207 (Directions)
This Detroit Documenters Community of Practice (DCoP) is open to the community - you don’t need to have attended a Documenters orientation or training. Come connect with other civically active Detroiters.
For cleanup, meet in front of the Belle Isle Aquarium.. Then stick around for a BYO/potluck picnic afterward. Bring your family and a friend or two!
The cleanup is from 9:30 a.m. until noon. When you begin and end is entirely up to you! Every little bit helps keep our park beautiful. All the details can be found at: https://www.belleisleconservancy.org/cleanup
When you arrive, sign in and grab some garbage bags and gloves (provided). Pro tip: bring a bucket for easier collection. If you arrive early enough, a limited number of trash grabbers are also available. We won’t be attempting to do this part as a group, so once you’re checked in, go wherever on the island you want and pick up some litter! It’s fun like a treasure hunt, but trashier. Bring it back to where you checked in before noon for drop-off, and the good people of Belle Isle Conservancy will collect and weigh your bags of trash and give you stickers and high-fives.
Prepare for heat and sun. Wide-brimmed hats, sunblock and water are strongly encouraged!
At noon, we’ll meet up on the grass lawn adjacent to the aquarium (location here: https://goo.gl/maps/bgZmwybUztWCcGQ49) Look for the yellow Documenters banner! Bring a dish to share, beverages, coolers, blankets and whatever else you want. We’ll share stories of our cleanup adventure — where we went, the craziest things we found — and enjoy some time together in the beautiful outdoors.
