The meeting started on time. After the pledge and roll call, President Griffin gave a warning that disruptions to the proceedings would result in removal and possible misdemeanor charges.
Adam from Ward 11 spoke out about a proposed gas station at the corner of west blvd and madison ave, citing child/pedestrian safety concerns and problems with walkability.
Juan from Ward 11 spoke in support of the proposed gas station at west blvd and madison ave. After surveying other local residents, he says gas stations do not make people feel unsafe.
Heather from Ward 11 spoke against the gas station, followed by Kayla, Jacob and another Ward 11 resident all of whom spoke for the gas station project.
The final speaker was Stephanie. She also spoke for the gas station project. Supporters are saying redevelopment is necessary and claim that most of the dissent is coming from outside Ward 11.
After public comment, several appointments were announced: 👉Glenn Shoemate was appointed to the Port Authority's board of directors 👉Anthony Hairston and Kris Harsh were appointed to the Reinvestment Review Committee.
The 1st reading of legislation was not posted on the agenda I received, so I don't have information prepared for you. After the meeting, I'll post what this legislation is in regards to. It's read too quickly to catch everything. 986-2024 through 991-2024 all read and approved.
2nd Reading of legislation: 472-2024 and 473-2024 designate two local churches as Cleveland Landmarks.
806-2024- allows for the pursuit of reimbursement of eclipse related events 807-2024- allows for the pursuit of a grant for the Law Enforcement Diversion Program
820-2024 - in regards to data collection and analysis for the Cleveland Police Crisis Intervention Team Co-Responder Program 827-2024 - allows for the sale of Cleveland property that's no longer needed.
833-2024 -in regards to the Building Performance Standards Grant 956-2024 - in regards to monthly parking fees
All the legislation until this point was unanimously approved. The only exception was 835-2024, which would allow for the Executive Director of the Community Police Commission to enter a contract with the United Black Fund for grant management services... It received two nays.
Emergency Resolutions Read in Full and Adopted: 948-2024, 949-2024, and 950-2024.
Joe Jones introduced Ibrahim, a gas station owner in his ward that he says has put in a lot of effort into cleaning up and maintaining his gas station property, despite multiple setbacks...including vandalism, loitering, public urination etc.
Joe Jones says Ibrahim, who may be considered for the gas station project that dominated public comment today, is someone he can personally vouch for.
