Good morning, Chicago! I’m live tweeting the City Council meeting today starting at 9am for @CHIdocumenters!

@CHIdocumenters The link for the live stream will pop up here closer to 9am:

@CHIdocumenters On the agenda is a special meeting to consider Bring Chicago Home ordinance (SR2021-919).

@CHIdocumenters The revised proposal adds a referendum question on the Feb 2023 ballot that asks voters if the Real Estate Transfer Tax on transactions over $1M should be increased to create a dedicated revenue stream for homelessness services and affordable housing.

@CHIdocumenters The agenda shows public comment will start after the special meeting is called up: https://t.co/i459IvRIGi

Wow. We lack a quorum. Waguespack makes a motion to adjourn. https://t.co/dGdH9HHOIv

Hadden asks if we can make a motion to recess anticipating more will arrive soon.

Motion to adjourn fails 13-3, were standing in recess for 5 minutes. https://t.co/fmx0YDdnvr

Worth noting that only 30% of City Council members are present (16/50) nearly 15 minutes into this meeting.

There are 5x more people logged onto the stream to hear what City Council has to say than there are council members here to speak :/

Required quorum not met — would be 26 members present (majority of members + Mayor) https://t.co/lZcyv7fSXV

Hadden makes a motion to recess until 11:30am — motion denied by Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Lightfoot makes a motion to adjourn: “We’ve had now two different quorums, this meeting cannot proceed at this time.”

Roll call vote to reconvene was seconded and Lightfoot says she’ll “reconsider” the motion to adjourn

Lightfoot asks if Hadden anticipates having the numbers for a quorum at 11:30am — she says she does.

Vote to recess until 11:30am passes — we will be back then! https://t.co/AFDiX6EgT1

Hopkins requests that his vote on the motion to recess from before be recorded as “yes” — there was a mistake

Wow, again — no quorum. One member short of majority. https://t.co/CgLwl9yTft

Organizers with @BringChiHome chanted “we’ll be back,” as the meeting came to a close without any discussion or a vote. https://twitter.com/heathercherone/status/1592212402623610880
