- The Housing & Redevelopment Authority and other committees approved actions totaling $19 million in awards for 41 housing proposals, including more than 1400 units, most of which the county defines as affordable.
- The Administration, Operations, and Budget Committee approved routine items, which include:
- Authorizing the County Administrator to negotiate with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regarding funding for housing. According to county documents: “This funding will assist in the creation of 82 affordable rental units, including the Community Corner project in Brooklyn Center and the Tessman Ridge II project in Brooklyn Park; rehabilitate and preserve 44 affordable rental units; create 23 homeownership opportunities, and repair 54 homes; and provide rapid rehousing for 55 homeless households, tenant based rental assistance for 40 households, and public services assistance to 2,882 low-income people.”
- Extending the county’s lease on a monthly basis with St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in downtown Minneapolis to provide family shelter. The county began leasing the space for the shelter last December, in response to the largest demand ever for family shelter, Human Services Director David Hewitt said.
- The Public Works Committee authorized a $1.4 million increase to its contract with Bolton & Menk for final design engineering for the reconstruction of Franklin Avenue between Lyndale Avenue and Chicago Avenue (for a total project value of $3.2 million). Construction is scheduled from 2025 to 2026.
